Looking For A Non-Judgemental Space To Explore Your Relationship With Food And Body?
Hi, I'm Ged. I’m Glad We Found One Another.
If you are struggling to have your body and eating concerns taken seriously because you are a higher weight, I see you, and I am so very sorry that the systemic fatphobia in healthcare is failing you.
At Sunny Nutrition and Dietetics, I strive to provide an environment free of weight stigma and shame so that you can reconnect with your body, explore what health looks and feels like for you, and live in peace, free from the harms of diets.
I Never Intended On Being A Dietitian…
However My Training Led Me To Work In An Area Of Dietetics That Is Now So Close To My Heart.
At the time I headed back to university, I was deeply enmeshed with my own disordered eating and I had enrolled with the aim of learning how to be better at losing weight.
Being in a higher weight body myself, rather than being met with curiosity and concern, I was showered with praise and positive reinforcement. I was, after all, doing the thing we’ve all been told we’re supposed to do when we have a body that doesn’t conform to the thin ideal – shrink it.
The weight-normative learning environment did not help, but it did result in meeting awesome colleagues who shared that there was an alternative to dieting. This began a deep (and ongoing) journey of unlearning diet culture and learning about Health at Every SizeⓇ. This is what ultimately sparked my recovery and helped me find a relationship with food and my body that has me enjoying, and living in my life.
Since graduating I’ve gone on to do postgraduate study in eating disorders, CBT-E, ACT, MI, Intuitive Eating, Trauma Informed Dietetics and now have the honour of partnering with clients on their healing journey.
You Won’t Find The Food Police Here.
In my work, I take a weight inclusive approach using Intuitive Eating and Body Image Therapy and love working with clients in larger bodies to find food freedom and body image peace and say a big Feck You to the systems that oppress fat and marginalised bodies.
This work can be challenging but I will make it as enjoyable as possible as we dive in, look around and notice the diet BS we’ve been invested in over the years.
